Patch Test Policy - Faking It Hairdressing & Beauty

Your safety comes first. Some services use products that can cause an allergic reaction. A quick skin test helps us check suitability before we treat you.

Services that need a patch test

  • Hair colour (tints, toners, glosses, root taps, highlights with toner)
  • Brow tint, lash tint
  • LVL/Lash lift
  • Brow lamination
  • Henna brows

When you must be patch tested

You’ll need a test at least 48 hours before your appointment if:

  • You’re a new client to Faking It
  • It’s been 6+ months since your last relevant service with us
  • You’ve changed your hair/skin health, medication or had a recent tattoo/henna
  • You’ve had COVID-19 or other illness since your last test
  • We’re using a different brand or formula than before
  • You’re pregnant or breastfeeding (we’ll advise case by case)

No patch test = no treatment. This is for your safety.

How we patch test

  • We apply a tiny amount of product behind the ear or on the inner elbow.
  • Leave for 45 minutes (unless advised otherwise), then remove.
  • Keep the area dry and uncovered for 48 hours.
  • If you notice redness, itching, swelling or soreness, wash off straight away and contact us. Do not proceed with the service.

How long it’s valid

  • A patch test is usually valid for 6 months with the same brand/formula—unless any of the “When you must be patch tested” points apply.
  • We record your result securely on your client file.

Under 16s

  • We do not perform hair colour, brow/lash tinting, lash lifts or brow lamination on clients under 16. Proof of age may be required.

Medications & medical conditions

Please tell us about: skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis), asthma, allergies, pregnancy, recent medical treatments, or any medication that may make skin more sensitive (e.g., acne treatments, steroids). We’ll advise if we need to postpone or adapt your service.

Booking your patch test

  • Book a free patch test online or by phone at least 2 days before your appointment.
  • Pop in; it takes just a few minutes.

Cancellations & late tests

If a patch test hasn’t been completed 48 hours before a colour/tint/lift/lamination service, we’ll need to reschedule. Our standard cancellation terms will apply.
