Hair Straightening & Smoothing

At Faking It Hairdressing and Beauty, we customise smoothing or straightening to your hair type and goals, think glassy shine, reduced bulk and humidity-proof control. Choose keratin/smoothing for softer, quicker blow-dries with natural movement, or opt for permanent straightening for a sleek, low-volume finish. We assess condition, use bond care where needed and guide you on simple aftercare so results last beautifully without compromising hair health.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between smoothing and straightening?
Smoothing (keratin) softens frizz, adds shine and shortens styling time while keeping natural movement. Permanent straightening (chemical reformation) changes the hair’s shape for a sleek, low-volume finish until new growth arrives. We’ll recommend based on texture, desired finish and maintenance preference.
How long do results last?
Keratin/smoothing typically lasts 3–5 months with the right shampoo and heat care. Permanent straightening lasts until it grows out; retouch every 4–6 months depending on regrowth. Regular trims and heat protection keep hair smooth and glossy for longer.
Is it safe for coloured or highlighted hair?
Yes—with a plan. We assess porosity and strength, add bond care as needed, and adjust processing for sensitised or highlighted hair. Colour is best done either a week before smoothing or 7–10 days after (toners can be same-day by consultation).
Will it damage my hair?
Any chemical service changes the fibre, but controlled processing, quality formulas and bond support minimise risk. We won’t proceed if your hair isn’t ready; we’ll map a conditioning plan first. You’ll leave with tailored home care to protect results.
What should I book and how do I prep?
Book a consultation or “Keratin Smoothing” or “Permanent Straightening.” Arrive with clean, product-light hair. After smoothing, avoid moisture and tight ties for 48–72 hours (brand dependent). Use sulphate-free cleansers, heat protection and a microfibre towel to maintain the finish.
